PENNSYLVANIA: FBI RAIDS SIX SITES IN WELDON CORRUPTION PROBE.
What a difference one day makes. Until Monday, Congressman Curt Weldon (R-PA) adamantly denied he was the target of any FBI corruption investigation. In fact, Weldon's staff accused the Democrats, essentially, of spreading disinformation to cripple Weldon's reelection bid. The denials vanished Monday as the FBI raided six locations in two states tied to Weldon's daughter and business associates in search of incriminating evidence. FBI agents were seen exiting the six properties carrying boxes of seized items. The probe is focusing on whether Weldon used his position in office to secure lucrative lobbying contracts for his daughter -- particularly some deals in 2002-04 to help two Russian companies and two Serbian brothers with ties to the late Serbian war criminal Slobodan Milosevic. In response to the raids, Weldon said he believes the timing was politically motivated. The FBI raids are causing us to revise our rating yet again -- just one day after the last revision -- to now declare Weldon the underdog against retired Navy Admiral Joe Sestak (D). Race rating: Leans DEM.
