Frequently Asked Questions

About the PoliticWiki Web Site

Who owns this web site?

This site is hosted in a personal development area managed by Kevin Makice. The control of publication of this web site belongs to Mr. Makice, but the content is available through copyleft restrictions.

Who sets and enforces the rules?

This is an open community. While site administrators reserve the right to refuse access to any member or intervene to resolve a technical or interpersonal issue, the responsibility for developing protocols and other rules falls to the PoliticWiki membership.

Why can't I upload files?

Due to limits in the server space reserved for this project, uploads will not be permitted by members. I you have a graphic or file that is appropriate to add to PoliticWiki to enhance this site, please post a description (including file size and format) as an official request to upload a file.

Why can't I create a new login?

In some wiki web sites, the public is openly invited to participate by creating a new login account. PoliticWiki was created as a research project, therefore some membership control is necessary. New members are welcome, but they must first give their consent to participate in this study. A short, 10-minute entrance survey is also required.

Will the site change during this project?

Yes, on two fronts. First, all participants will be able to actively change the content and structure of the site through editing pages, creating links, associating categories, and other interactions. Second, as a group you may post suggested ways to improve this web site from a functional and presentational perspective. The administrator of PoliticWiki will make an effort to perform monthly upgrades to reflect some of those suggestions. Additionally, new members may appear at any point during the course of this project, injecting fresh ideas into the collective.

About the PoliticWiki Mission

Why am I here?

You likely have a strong interest in either computer-mediated communication or politics, or you simply agreed to participate in research on these topics. You now share the same mission as all of the other members: to build a new political platform from scratch. How this is accomplished is up to the PoliticWiki community. See also, the orriginal goals of the study.

To whom does this content belong?

Content is available through copyleft restrictions, which requires attribution when distributing text published to this site. The web site is hosted in a personal development area managed by Kevin Makice, giving him the power to program, relocate and even shut down the site.

What will happen with our ideas?

Who knows? Ideas with merit could get re-used. 3rdparty.org will likely rely on some content for its political direction. Since all edits are subject to copyleft policies, anyone coming across this site on the web will have access to published ideas and can make use of the content by providing proper attribution.

Will the Administrator participate in the project?

The administrator of this project will not be an active participant in the collaboration tasks. The primary focus of the administrator is to maintain the environment and monitor, but not necessarily respond to changes in content.

Members may ask questions of the administrator and make suggestions, but no guarantees of answers are implied.

What if this experiment leads nowhere?

Valuable lessons about the nature of collaboration and team dynamics are expected, even without a consensus. Strengths and weaknesses of this site design will be illuminated. The project will generate future update requests for programmers.
